The bright minds of the European union never cease to surprise us. Just when we think they cannot get any worse, they do. Gotta handed to them, being this stupid takes a lot of effort. Their new Chief of Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini, seen above, is no exception to this.
The EU, much like the UN is not a very intelligent organization, filled with people who are very biased and clearly uninformed, and unintelligent. It is very possible that those words are also part of the job requirement for the various positions in both. Ms. Mogherini is one such individual personifying the intelligence of not just herself, but of her own organization and the nations within it. That takes talent.
“I think Jerusalem can be and should be the capital of two states,” stated Federica Mogherini in front of reporters in Ramallah. Mogherini is Italian, and likely would not like it if Greece suddenly decided that they wanted Rome for their capital. Would she suggest that Rome become the capital of two-states? Or is she, much like US Secretary of State John Kerry, so determined to find a magical solution just to gain world recognition?
To give a brief history in 1010 BCE King David captures Jerusalem and it becomes the City of David and the capital of the United Kingdom of Israel. After the death of King Solomon, Jerusalem gets attacked….a lot and jumps between Egypt and Babylon and Macedonia and the Assyrians and other people. It then falls into the hands of the Roman Empire (at which point the area around it is named “Palestine” for the Philistines) followed by the Byzantine Empire. 637 AD brings about the Siege of Jerusalem where the city fell to the Muslims for the first time under the Rashidun Caliphate and is essentially kept by the Muslims with Jews being allowed to freely worship. After that you have the Crusades, where the Church took over and fought the Muslims for control of it and the two fight back and forth for a while over that.
Eventually, in the 16th century, 1516 to be exact, Jerusalem is captured by the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire fell after WWI and the British took over the area named “Palestine.” In all this time, there was never a Palestinian people who were not Jewish, nor did they ever attempt to start their own country. Israel declared Independence in 1948 and in 1967 it took back Jerusalem from the Jordanians who had captured it in 1948 and proceeded to expel Jews from their own city.
Now in the time that Jerusalem was under the control of Muslims/Ottomans it was never the capital of any of the Caliphates or the Ottoman Empire. To the Palestinians, their claim to Jerusalem is laughable. Their claim to Jerusalem is as followed: Prophet Muhammad died in Mecca and rode all night on his horse to Jerusalem which he then parked at the Wailing Wall and went up to the Dome of the Rock, and rose up to heaven. But if it really means that much to them why did the PLO make no mention of it in 1964 ‘s National Covenant? Further more “In 638 CE, the Caliph (or successor to Mohammed) Omar and his invading armies captured Jerusalem from the Byzantine Empire. One reason they wanted to erect a holy structure in Jerusalem was to proclaim Islam’s supremacy over Christianity and its most important shrine, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.”
Jerusalem has only ever been the capital of one country, Israel. There is a mountain full of historic, religious, and archaeological evidenceto support Jewish sovereignty over Jerusalem. For Federica Mogherini it seems though, that does not matter. It does not matter that the Palestinians cannot prove a connection to Jerusalem, they want it as their capital, therefore they must have it, for no other reason than they demand it, and have demanded it for years. Forget the fact that they never had it in the first place and that dividing a city in half pretty much guarantees another set of wars. But hey, if it solves the conflict on paper it solves the conflict on paper, right? All that matters is the Nobel Peace Prize she’ll get for a quote on quote “peace.”
But this is only the first of what is sure to be an abundance of asinine statements and blunders on behalf of the EU and its new head of Foreign Affairs. According to her, the residence of Gaza and the world cannot afford another Gaza war. The world is not involved in the Gaza war, there are three people involved. 1. Hamas, the terrorists lobbing rockets at Israel. 2. Is Israel defending itself and 3. is civilians on both sides, one group of them is being used as human shields, while the others are being defended.
“We need a Palestinian state — that is the ultimate goal and this is the position of all the European Union,” she said. But who is this we that needs a Palestinian state? The only we here are the Palestinians who scream about getting their own state…while also screaming about destroying Israel and killing Jews. Can a people so dependent on the world’s money really be capable of governing themselves?
Hamas took control of Gaza democratically, and had plenty of time and money to put forth for schools, an economy, job creation, etc. But instead, a good majority of the money that they receive goes towards propaganda and terrorism. The We that is the Jewish people, and the people of Israel would love to have a genuine friend, a partner in peace, that they can call neighbor in the region. Sadly, that is not likely to happen.
The Palestinians are incapable at present of doing anything that requires genuine interest in independence and peace. Instead of whining and screaming about the need for independence, show them instead of telling them. But then, what’s the point in that? The EU is all ready to bow to the demands of the Palestinians and is ready to continue to condemn Israel for 1 crime only: existence.
